Amy Kurland

Amy Kurland brings more than four decades understanding how complex legal and institutional problems develop – and what can be done to prevent them. A seasoned trial lawyer, former federal prosecutor, and former Inspector General for the City of Philadelphia, Amy has experience from nearly every side of a complex legal matter.

Amy’s approach is grounded in prevention: identifying risk early, helping clients understand their options, and guiding them through government inquiries, investigations, enforcement actions, litigation, and other high-stakes matters. She actively works side-by-side with her clients throughout every matter, bringing her experience and judgment directly to the issues and decisions they face.

As co-chair of Rohn Kurland Rossman, Amy focuses her practice on complex criminal, commercial and financial litigation, internal investigations, and corporate counseling involving governance, ethics, and risk management. Her recent work includes conducting sensitive internal investigations, representing companies in civil RICO matters, and serving as a Special Master and Settlement Master appointed by federal judges to manage complex discovery disputes and settlements. She also serves in attorney disciplinary matters for the federal courts and the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board.

Experienced. Responsive.

Before entering private practice, Amy spent 24 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia, where she investigated and prosecuted complex federal crimes with a particular focus on fraud and public corruption. Her work spanned pharmaceutical and healthcare fraud, government contracts, bank failures, tax, insurance, securities, and investigative and prosecution of high-ranking public officials. She also served as Senior Litigation Counsel and Professional Responsibility Officer, training federal prosecutors and advising them on ethics and professional responsibility.

Amy then served for 12 years as Inspector General for the City of Philadelphia under Mayors Michael Nutter and Jim Kenney. As a member of the Mayor’s Cabinet, she led the office responsible for investigating and preventing fraud, corruption, misconduct, and abuse across city government. She worked closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement and advised mayors and department heads on integrity, ethics, and the prevention of misconduct.

Amy’s expertise has also been sought nationally and internationally. Through the U.S. Department of Justice, she helped train newly appointed judges and prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina; later taught investigative and ethics practices to government and law enforcement leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo; and as a consultant with Bloomberg Associates, advised cities in the United States and abroad on integrity, anti-corruption, transparency, and internal operations. Amy has also spent decades teaching trial advocacy at Rutgers and Temple Law Schools and to government attorneys and law enforcement. She currently serves on the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
